A Way Forward is a 501c(3) non-profit organization whose primary mission is to help survivors of domestic and sexual abuse transition to safe and independent living by providing assistance for emergency services such as temporary housing, transportation, food and other basic life needs. A Way Forward was established in 1980 under the name Friends of the Fairfax County Victim Assistance Network. The name A Way Forward was adopted in 2011 in effort to express the mission of the organization.
- For over 35 years, A Way Forward has served the residents of Fairfax County in countless ways. A Way Forward provides direct service to survivors of sexual and domestic violence through funds for emergency, counseling and supportive services. A Way Forward promotes awareness through education, publications and other efforts. A Way Forward also speaks to governmental and community groups on behalf of survivors to ensure adequate funding for services and to inform public officials and the community of the needs. A Way Forward monitors legislation affecting survivors on the national, state and local levels. A Way Forward is also part of the Domestic Violence Action Center in Fairfax, Virginia.
A Way Forward is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and Members of the Organization.
